The dead are among us - Chapter 7 - Gear up

A day after the Tesco run, Brad is outside on the small road in the blocked off cul-de-sac kicking a football against a small brick wall next to the alley way. Aisha comes out with Jamalia and asks if her daughter can join him. Aisha is a small woman. She, like Marlon is of Black British ethnicity. She has long black hair and is wearing blue denim jeans and a dark grey t-shirt. Her daughter Jamalia is only about 10 years old. She Has slightly more curly hair and has slightly chubby cheeks. Brad says "Sure she can play. And we'll definitely be safe as we've got Colton who is watching over the alley way. Colton has a deck chair that is raised on a small makeshift platform made from wooden pallets. He can overlook the nearest bit of the alley however is corners off for a bit where it becomes not visible. He can also see the road that it leads onto. This is the main road that has the Nisa shop that they have used a few times for supply runs. 

After playing for about 10 minute, Brad picks up the ball and heads inside. He enters the living room where he sees Josh, Dean, Marlon and Ruth discussing a supply run into town. "Hey can I join? I want to help a bit more around here" asks Brad. Ruth states "Absolutely not. No way, It's way too dangerous." "Nah let my little bro come c'mon. What's the worst that can happen?" "Fine. But you've got to behave. We are going to the police station that is slightly into the town. We are hoping to find some supplies there."

The 5 of them get into Josh's Grey Vauxhall Corsa. It's a bit of a squeeze but they do it to save fuel as it's now a precious resource. There are a few abandoned cars that are blocking the road to the police station. They get out the car and have to walk around 20 meters to the police station entrance. Josh and Dean are walking in front and quickly dive down behind one of the abandoned cars. Marlon, Ruth and Brad quickly do the same. They notice there are 3 undead around the entrance of the station. Dean takes out a knife and tells Josh and Marlon to follow him. They quickly dart and hide behind the car in front. The infected are facing towards them so they aren't able to move. They are clenching onto their knives getting ready to jump up and stab them as they approach. The undead are just around 2-3 meters away when suddenly they see someone dart from in front quickly stabbing the undead that's the furthest away. Its a woman with short blonde hair. The other 2 undead suddenly jump on her and try to attack her. Marlon, Dean and Josh run out to stab them and get them off the woman. They do that and throw the dead bodies off her.

"AH, Thank you. why'd you save me" says the woman. "We couldn't just let you die haha" jokes Dean. "Well thankyou. My names Lilly. I was a police officer before this. What are you guys doing here at the police station?" "Well. We're looking for supplies. Maybe some weapons or gear to help us survive." says Josh. "Well this use to be my workplace so ill help you. I know where the good stuff is kept haha." They start looking for a way to get in but find that all of the doors around the building are locked. Marlon comes up with the idea of throwing a brick through one of the glass windows to get in. He says this to Ruth and Brad while the others are looking for a way in. They decide to try it so he gets a brick and throws it at a reasonably large window on the front face of the building. 

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! 

An alarm starts loudly playing from the police station. It must be a detection system fitted on the windows. Dean, Josh and Lilly run over to see what's happening. They see a few infected running towards the building. They panic and decide to enter through the window. They are in an office and decide to push a cupboard against the window. This mostly blocks it so that the undead can't enter. "We've got to try and turn off the alarm. I know where the control panel is however I want someone to come with me. There is a vault here where I want the others to go. There you might find a few weapons. I don't know what going to be left as some of it has probably been taken. You need to go down the corridor, take a left. Its then the first room there. The code for the vault is 77398. meet me back in this office ASAP."

Ruth and Lilly head right down the corridor and enter a room. There is a control panel that is showing the alarm. She's not sure how to turn it off though. She is pressing all the buttons but its not working. She is starting to panic. Ruth says why don't we leave it. lets get out as quick as we can.

Dean, Josh, Brad and Marlon have to take out 2 undead on there way to the vault. They locate the keypad and enter the code. They walk into the Vault and search for anything useful. They do find a Riot shield, 2 Glock 17 pistols with a few boxes of ammo and 3 bullet proof vests. Most of the things must have been taken but these were slightly hidden in the corner. They grab these and run out the room. They notice that the alarm is still going off however.

They all get to the office and say they need to get out as quickly as they can. They have a bit of a problem as there is only one exit. That being through the broken window. The alarm has drawn around 20 undead that are pressing up against the window and cupboard. Lilly says "okay guys. You lot hide in the room on the right. I'm going to move the cupboard and draw them out. I'll hide and let them go past. When you guys see a break, run and get out." "Why. there's no chance of you escaping. They'll be right on you." says Josh. Lilly rolls up her sleeve to reveal a bite mark on her arm. "Yeah one of them got me when they jumped on top of me. I'm going to go out at some stage anyway. Might aswel mean something." They all give her a hug and continue with the plan by hiding in the other room. Lilly tips over the cupboard and turns and runs. 20 undead come rushing out at her. She manages to make it out the room and turns left down the corridor. She runs into the room with the vault but trips. All of the dead jump on top of her and attack her. She screams out in pain.

Josh, Dean, Marlon, Ruth and Brad all run out of their hiding spots and make a break from it. Luckily there are no undead outside so are able to make a clear dash for their car. On the drive home they discuss what happened. They are sad that Lilly had to sacrifice her life but are also feeling a bit relived with the gear that they have got. 

When they arrive at the Cul-de-sac, Lewis is on watch of the road entrance. He lets them in and they show everyone what they have got. They decide to distribute the loot. As Lewis is always on watch they decide that it would be a good idea to give him one of the Glock 17 pistols with half the ammo. They leave the riot shield with Colton on the other lookout area as they think if needed he can use it to block the rest of the alleyway if there was infected to come down. The other Glock 19 pistol goes to Geoff as he's the guy in charge. They then distribute the 3 bulletproof vests to Josh, Marlon and Kate. 

As the day goes on Colton is still on watch of the Alleyway. He thinks he notices something strange so pulls out his binoculars to check. He see's a man rush out from behind a car and run down the road out of site. He was wearing a balaclava and must have been watching them. He tells Geoff and Geoff gets the group together to tell them what has happened on the Tesco run. The people are all scared however they are much more on guard now. Even inside the Cul-de-sac they decide its a good idea to carry weapons just in case. Josh asks "Where's Kate? is she on look out?" As they walk out of Geoffs House Geoff says "Yes! She's there look" and points to a lookout spot. There faces drop when they see that Kate is not there. They run to the lookout spot to see that the knife Kate carries has been left on the floor next to a spilt drink that she had. It was in a plastic cup so didn't smash. "Do you think they've taken her?" says Josh. Geoff replies "I don't know. But we have to find her."
