The dead are among us - Chapter 2 - The Great Cafe Escape

The woman in the cafe that bared the door shut runs to the back of the shop, searching for anything they can use. She is a short woman with short black hair in her early twenties. She has tattoos all over her arms and piercings on her nose and ears. She is wearing a black and white striped apron as she was the girl working at the cafe at the time. A few of the people follow to try and help. She says to one man to watch the front door and make sure they don't get through. Josh says "what the hell were they doing? Are they the people that they were talking about on the news?". She replies "Must be, we saw someone attack a few people outside and a few of them escaped and managed to hide inside the shop. Oh, my name's Kate by the way". "Oh god, and i'm Josh and this is my younger brother Brad".

The three of them notice that one man that went in the back is shaking slightly and sweating. They're not sure wether it's because he's scared of what's going on or if there's more going on. Kate says "Hey, is everything alright?". He turns with a worried look on his face. His eyes are red and he's gripping his stomach. "Why are you holding your stomach?" Someone says. He removes is black bomber jacket to reveal a mostly bloody red t-shirt that is now starting to drip with blood. Everyone gasps in shock of what they've seen. "It's nothing I promise". He zips up his jacket and tries to move the conversation onto something else.

One person manages to find a few knives in a draw. They keep one for themself, hands one to Kate and one to Josh. They are all trying to come up with solutions on how to escape when all of a sudden the man watching the front door yells "OH MY GOD HE'S TURNED INTO ONE OF THEM". The man that had been mauled has now risen up from the ground and started joining the other five people in attacking the door trying to get in. The door is starting to crack under the pressure and it's only a matter of seconds before they come in. Suddenly, "AHHHHHH." The scream of a woman is heard on the street and the six people that were attacking the door turn and run down the street. They all look at each other and decide to make a break for it until all of a sudden they hear a smash from the back room. One man goes to check and screams. He is viscously attacked and bitten by the man that was covering his wound under his jacket. One person tries to run and save him while Josh, Brad, Kate and another person take out the wood blocking the door and push it open. 

They run out and turn to run down the street. It seems clear so they keep going. They get a few streets down to the outskirts of town and stop to catch there breath. The other person that was with them decides to part ways as they want to rush home. Kate pulls out her phone and calls the police. She is unable to get through as it is too busy as there are hundreds of people trying to get through all at the same time. 

Josh decoded to ring his mum called Ruth. She is a small forty six year old woman with dark hair and glasses. She is currently at work at a a local nursery. She hears her phone ringing in her bag so makes her way to it. Josh tell her the whole situation with people attacking the cafe and attacking others and she tells them to get home imediatly. She tells her boss that she has to leave work and starts her drive home. Josh and Brad can't get to there car however as it is on the opposite side of town and they don't want to risk going through again. Instead they run home, parting ways with Kate. They exchange numbers however so that they can stay in touch just incase. 

Ruth rings her husband Geoff who is also at work and tells him what happened. He finishes work in a few hours so will come home after he's finished. Geoff is a fairly tall slim man with short light hair and a small amount of light facial hair. He works in an office on the other side of the city which is a 30 minute drive from home. 

About thirty minutes has passed and Josh and Brad have just rushed through the front door of there house, locking the door behind them. They are met at the start of the living room by Beth who is wondering why they've ran into the house in such a rush. They explain the whole situation to her and say that their mum and step-dad (Beth's dad) are coming home soon as it's an emergency. Beth however is hesitant. She is one for conspiracy theories and rules out the possibility of people eating each other. She is looking at the lads to see if there is any signs of them being under the influence of alcohol or drugs as she thinks that might be what has caused them to see this.

A few minutes pass and suddenly they hear something at the door. They hear the turn of a key and see the door handle go down. The door opens but there faces fill with relief when they see that it is there mother, Ruth. She first runs to Brad and then to Josh, giving them both a big hug. They all talk about the situation and Ruth says that in the drive back she heard on the radio that there have been multiple attacks throughout the town. They decide to wait it out for Geoff to get back as he sort the boss of the house, and is usually quite quick thinking and logical.
